Living Well Sunset
S

urely "living well" means being at peace with myself, being who I am, and knowing what I have, is enough? Living well should be about savoring all moments and experiences in life. Living well should be about sunsets, good books, and hearty laughs. Living well should be about small gifts and smiles. Living well should be about sharing my knowledge. Living well should be about love, passion, and being grateful that I can make a difference.

Is there anything in this world that can be more fun than being just a child – conquering the world of my imagination? As a child, it seemed like the world as a whole was there just for me. I rushed to every experience and adventure.

As I grow older, I realize that much of what I enjoy is made possible by the contributions, work, and labor of those that came before me:  my parents, my teachers, my professors, and my mentors. And I am taken aback because now I see the cracks in their facades. Imperfections in the details. I see the millions of ways I could have done it better.

Well, here I am. I am confronted with two options: complaining about how far from perfect things are, rolling up my sleeves, and getting the job done.

Can I leave behind a better legacy than those I criticize? Can I pitch in and make a better contribution in an imperfect world?

The difference I make in the world, however small or big, cannot be made by anyone else.

I have discovered that making a difference in someone else’s life allows me to have more fun.

Are you living well?
